Argentine Military Cemetery
AM Cemetery – A Place of Remembrance
The Falkland Islands are widely known for their history surrounding the 1982 conflict. The Argentine Cemetery holds the remains of 236 Argentine soldiers who lost their lives during the war.
Regarded as a sensitive matter at the time, Argentina declined the return of their fallen soldiers. After the offer to repatriate them was refused, British forces constructed this cemetery for their former opposition. Since then, it has been maintained by an Argentine citizen who resides in the Islands.

A Quiet and Moving Memorial
Consecutive lines of white crosses, each adorned with rosaries, stretch across this quiet and remote landscape. It is a peaceful and beautifully kept burial ground for those wishing to pay their respects to the fallen.
Sadly, not all graves were originally identified, and for many years some remained unnamed. Today, all 649 Argentine lives lost in the conflict are engraved on a remembrance wall that curves around the upper edge of the cemetery. At its centre stands a cenotaph in the form of a large white cross.

Your Guided Visit
This trip takes approximately four hours from start to finish.
Your driver will collect you from your chosen location, whether that be the Jetty Centre or your hotel, and will take you to Darwin. The road includes some potholes and uneven sections, so parts of the journey may be slightly rough. However, there is no off-roading, as a gravel road runs all the way to the cemetery.
The journey to the cemetery generally takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes each way, depending on weather conditions. You will have between 30 minutes and 1 hour at the cemetery to explore and reflect before returning to Stanley.
A minimum of four people is required for this trip.
